Harrisburg – Rendell Administration proposed to legalize video lottery to public places like bars, restaurants and other social clubs.
Col Frank E. Pawlowski of state police said that this legislation allows the state and local police efficiently supervised illegal gambling by establishing a clear distinction between legal and illegal video games or devices. Those caught in operating illegal video lottery will be penalized by stiff fines and suspension of liquor-license for the said offense.
Moreover, Col Pawlowski testified during the hearing on the said legislation at the House Gaming Oversight Committee. The proceeds of the state revenue will be utilized to aid college students pay their tuition.
As of the present, current gambling laws are ineffective due to its light penalties. Violators are not scared of the minimal fines they are paying.
With this new legislation, fines were raised higher for those caught operating illegal gambling device. From the usual fines of $400-$500, the fines for first offense now range from $1000 to $5000, and $15000 for the consequent offenses. Additional penalty is the suspension of liquor license, 1 week suspension for first offense and two weeks the next. Giving this additional penalty would surely make the would-be violators think twice because liquor license is very important to them. Having it suspended would impair their business.
